The first International Women's Day was observed on March 19, 1911, in several European countries, and it gained global recognition after the United Nations officially adopted March 8 as the date in 1975.
History
Early Celebrations: The idea for an annual Women's Day was proposed at the International Socialist Women's Conference in Copenhagen in 1910. The first celebration took place in 1911 across Europe.
